Private Jet Crashes Moments After Takeoff
A small business aircraft crashed at London Southend Airport on Sunday afternoon, triggering a massive fireball and dense black smoke that could be seen for miles across Essex. Emergency services remain at the scene of what police are calling a “serious incident.”
The crash occurred just before 4 pm local time, with Essex Police confirming they received reports of a collision involving a 12-metre (39-foot) aircraft. The plane was reportedly a small business jet en route to Lelystad in the Netherlands.

Authorities have not yet confirmed how many people were on board, and details about casualties or injuries remain unclear.
A statement shared by Essex police reads, “We remain on the scene of a serious incident at Southend Airport. We were alerted shortly before 4pm to reports of a collision involving one 12-metre plane. We are working with all emergency services at the scene now and that work will be ongoing for several hours. We would please ask the public to avoid this area where possible while this work continues.”
East of England Ambulance Service shared update and stated that Four ambulances, a rapid response vehicle, four Hazardous Area Response Team vehicles, three senior paramedic cars and Essex and Herts Air Ambulance have been sent to Southend Airport in response to the accident.
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service also responded, with crews from Southend (two), Rayleigh Weir, and Basildon (two), along with off-road vehicles from Billericay and Chelmsford.
